Hainsey to Atlanta
Sportsnet reports that defenseman Ron Hainsey has signed a five-year, $22.5-million contract with Atlanta.

Pickings are getting slim for the FA market. If Dean wants to sign besides Orpik, there is not much else. I guess we could always trade for a guy now. It is highly unlikely Dean will go the RFA route either. He loves hisself them draft picks !

Yet another ridiculous contract. If Hainsey is worth 4.5M to Atlanta, I'd imagine Orpik and Kalanin are being offered 5M per or more.

And Orpik is only worth bringing in at the right price. He's at best a 4-5-6 defenseman. He had a good playoff but that doesn't mean he should get some of the crazy jack being thrown around.

I really agree with the sentiments of Oz above. Orpik is a good 4-5-6 defenseman, but I think Orpik is getting so much fanboy love here because of one shift during the finals where he knocked down 4 or 5 opposing players. The FA market was thin to begin with, and now I'm afraid there's hardly anyone left out there whom Dean can bring in to have a positive impact next season.
