Ann Coulter and the Abortion Doctor
In a recent interview with Bill O'Reilly, Republican pundit Ann Coulter sloughed off the murder of abortion doctor, George Tiller, as a "termination in the 203 trimester." Not being a flag-waving, white-haired Republican wearing a flag pin, I am in favor of abortion, though this view probably comes, in part, from having dealt with too many customer service representatives and likewise too many daft people.
Besides, a fetus is not the same as a fully formed adult. Fetuses do not drive cars or go to medical school. Fetuses do not take out bad mortgages that plunge us into a near depression and they do not cut other drivers off to maneuver their car into a parking space at the mall. Fetuses are nicer than that.
So if Ann Counter and the moral majority feel so strongly about it, then they can always carry and raise these kids themselves, or better yet, hire themselves out as nannies. Let them show up at school after one of their charges has broken a window, assaulted a dean or written some choice words on school property. Let them go to the police station at 3:00 a.m. If nothing else, it may lead them into an epiphany where they will become staunch supporters of the other side and march alongside their (former) liberal foes at some pro-abortion rallies.
Gail, however offended you are by Ann's cutting sarcasm, and that certainly does run deep... you little valentine to abortion is every bit as offensive (including your crack about white-haired Republicans in sensible shoes, and your implication that people in the school system, customer service reps and "daffies" should have been aborted. Nice.)
What silly arguments.
So, if Ann and others are "so anti-abortion" let them carry and raise someone else's kids? I think you're missing a big point here, Gail. Ann and others who are not pro-abortion are not HAVING babies they won't take care of. Why is that so hard for the rest of you all?
Also, your rant has a very anti-parent flavor to it... as if raising children is a life sentence. I am sorry if your mother gave you that impression, but throughout history many parents have found it the best part of their lives.
And hordes of potential adoptive parents await the "unwanted" children whose parents got sloppy with the birth control.
Um, gulp, Diane. I was being tongue-in-cheek. My point is that Ann and others who aren't having babies are anti-abortion, so the choice isn't really theirs because it is not their bodies.
Well, that brings us back to the bodies of the people Ann&Co are defending, and that's the babies being killed. The "choice" should not really be a choice, any more than you can choose to off the 14 year old. That's MY point.
And your "tongue-in-cheek" was also very flippant, as if we all would be in favor of killing babies if we only devoted some time to thinking about how annoying some people are (daffy people among others).
The whole "it's not your body" argument is specious, because it exists in some la-la land where we somehow pretend that's not a person growing on the inside. As long as you can maintain that fantasy, your argument is very compelling.
