More on Torre's book
I spoke today with a source close to Joe Torre, who said the book was an ``honest'' account of what transpired in New York. But the source basically echoed what Tom Verducci said in his SI.com interview, that it isn't nearly as much of a hit job on the Yankees as it is being made out to be in the New York tabloids. I also heard from TWO sources today, both of them close to Torre, that almost everyone who appears in the book was contacted by either Torre or Verducci to give them a heads-up on what was written about them, and that none of those people took exception to any of it.

Leave it to the media to blow a story out of proportion. Thanks, Tony.
That should be: thanks for doing the legwork and finding out the truth. Just so we're clear.
Tony, has the Brad Ausmus contract been finalized yet? I'm assuming it's waiting on the completion of a physical. Any idea when that is scheduled?
Those who would buy the idea that we have to keep payroll down because of economic times are making excuses for an owner who doesn’t give a rat’s ass about winning as long as the team makes money. It’s that kind of an attitude that will turn off the fans and send them packing–unless that same owner over prices the tickets so that only the wealthy can afford to attend. Basketball has turned into that kind of game. Georgia Rosenbloom ruined the Rams that way after her husband was mysteriously drowned in shallow water.
Baseball is basically a blue collar game. Always has been. It’s the “American” past time. My grandfather had a friend who sold his 4 star gourmet restaurant in the 30s to buy a doughnut shop. He continued to make money because everyone needs to go out to eat once in a while–particularly in a time of economic crisis. Those who couldn’t afford an expensive meal could still afford doughnuts and coffee and so his doughnut shop was as packed as his 4 star restaurant had been before the depression. It didn’t hurt that he made a really good doughnut and had fine coffee.
People who are unemployed can’t afford to go to games. But southern california has a huge base of baseball fans. Put out a good product at a reasonable price and those who still have jobs–even those just scraping buy will go to games to root for their team if the team isn’t built to just make money but also provides a real shot at a championship. If you haven’t noticed, people like to identify with their teams and share the experience of success–of winning–with them. This, again, is magnified in hard times since the working stiff hasn’t too many ways of feeling good at hand when he’s barely getting by.
Bring in Garland and hope the kids improve and you are shooting yourself in the foot if you are Jed and Frank because no one wants to pay good money to see a loser. We need the big bat and we really need Sheets. If we sign a soft tosser with spotty command like Wolf or Garland and let Manny walk we will not contend. And attendance will probably drop by 1 million fans next season which the apologists for Frank’s profits will blame on the economy. The real cause of the dive will be his failure to build a team with the potential to win because he’s a damn cheapskate who’s really only interested in the bottom line.
My post above really belonged on yesterday's topic regarding Wolf. But I figured if I didn't post it on one of todays topics, no one would see it.
You're really taking this brevity thing to heart...
lawdog...What's your problem? Do you know how to run a business?
What a stupid post! How old are you?
Another dynamic and compelling post from bruin...keep sleeping
I-r-o-n-y.
Good to see you making time for me between all of your Tony-bashing/McCourt-bashing/nonsense...
But yeah, I'll take 15 paragraphs of long-winded rambling from lawdog over one sentence of yours any day...
Cheers!
*yawn*
Yeah you can take lawdog stuff & the truth I post about the Mc's & TJ the lapdog because at least it is thought provoking, but you have still YET to post anything compelling. I can see why you keep yawning, because you have nothing to offer. Keep sleeping...
Wow. Pretty delusional sense of yourself, but whatever keeps you going...
Good luck with that. Cheers!
*yawn*
Still nothing compelling...keep the streak going...and sleep, sleep, sleep
Does the irony not smack you in the face when you attempt to accuse me of the very shenanigans that are your claim to fame on this board?
Its truly laughable that you think your posts and compelling and insightful...
Keep trying though. Cheers!
*yawn*
Sleep little intern sleep
You can do better than that. Did you even go to college?
I take solace in the fact that I've temporarily deflected your attention away from your usual rambling nonsense.
Cheers to me!
*yawn*
The thing is you can't do better. Sleep little intern sleep. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
You do realize that internships at bigger firms pay 3k a week? Do you make that in a month?
I'll save my breath for another thread. Have a good one bud!
Sleep poor little uneducated intern sleep. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
