McCourt confirms trade
Dodgers owner Frank McCourt confirmed the Manny Ramirez trade during his press conference to announce that the Dodgers will host the finals of the World Baseball Classic next year. Tony is awaiting comment from general manager Ned Colletti on the trade.

I'd be interested to know if the as part of Manny agreeing to come to LA, will the Dodgers be able to offer him Arbitration in order to get the draft picks for him when he signs with the Yanks next season? ;)

I'll give this organization credit. They've not only benched Andruw, but they've gotten creative and (hopefully) replaced his offence in one fell swoop.
Now cut Sweeney and make some space for Delwyn Young and you have a decent, versatile bench with Nomar, Jones, Ozuna, Ethier (or Pierre) and switch hitting Young.
Much as I'd love to join in the chorus of people who'd rather see Ethier in the lineup than Pierre, I'd rather see what Kemp could do batting lower in the lineup now that Manny's here (and probably batting 3rd.)
To do that Pierre has to hit leadoff.
Jones is in the lineup tonight while Ethier sits. Will Torre ever learn?

I can't believe they'll DFA DY. He's 12 for 39 with a .386 OBP as PH. I know that doesn't compare with Sweeney's graceful veteran style but it's not bad. At some point reason must rule.

I heard on the radio today that Manny agreed not to accept arbitration when it is offered to him, allowing the Dodgers to obtain draft picks. I haven't seen this in print, but I've been out all day and haven't had time to read much.
I doubt this will happen, but I would love it if Pierre lost most of the playing time, along with Jones. Given that Manny can only play left field, that would mean Pierre moving to center, where his arm would once again be exposed. Torre probably won't agree with me, but I'd like to see an outfield of Manny in left, Kemp in center and Ethier in right. Probably wishful thinking.
