Civility wins in the end

I was out to lunch -- literally, not figuratively -- when this was announced at 1:45 this afternoon, so sorry it took me so long to get it up. The Dodgers reached agreement with reliever Joe Beimel today on a one-year deal with a $1.925 million base salary plus $40,000 for each of 50, 60, 70 and 85 appearances (he made a career-high 83 appearances last year). The base salary is the midpoint between the numbers filed last week by Beimel ($2.15 million) and the club ($1.7 million). With that, the Dodgers have settled all of their arbitration cases for the winter without going to a single hearing. Civility is a wonderful thing. This is a good deal for Joe, who gets a $1 million raise -- not too shabby for a guy who is essentially a situational lefty who can still eat an inning once in a while -- and, if he can stay healthy, can probably count on at least an additional $120,000.
