Police, fire departments push back on Mayor's budget cuts

| | Comments (0)

Budget clamering begins and both the police and fire department are bucking Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's call to cut, cut, cut. They are proposing something to the tune of $250 million more for the LAPD and $72 million for the LAFD and they say that the 8 percent the mayor has asked to be cut amid a $75 million city budget shortfall, could impede public safety and could force layoffs.

Fire Commission President Genethia Hudley-Hayes said flat out she "can't do that. I won't do that."

Police Commission President John Mack said, "It is important for everyone to understand that the LAPD is going to provide the best services possible and it takes money to accomplish that."
