About Rachel Uranga
I cover the LAPD and crime for the Los Angeles Daily News. A native Angeleno, I share with my fellow bloggers an affinity for all the glimmer and grit of this City of Angels. I will share with you my perspective and I am hoping that you will give me a bit of yours. Tips, opinions, criticisms, videos and tidbits are welcome.

I READ YOUR ARTICLE ABOUT THE MAN THAT HANGED HIMSELF IN A JAIL CELL AND WAS QUICKLY RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL. I'M JUST WONDERING THAT YOU HAVE ALOT OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE HOSPITAL, SUCH AS THE NAME OF THE E.R NURSE AND THAT THE HOSPITAL DIDN'T CALL THE MENTAL TEAM. FROM EXPERIENCE, MEDIA TEAM DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO THE HOSPITAL .
Mrs.uranga, your articles are greatly appreciated, for those who are deeply concerened about the mean streets we call home. By any chance, are you related to DAVID URANGA? professor, at PCC?
The case of Roselyn Hubbell has not garnered any coverage from the Daily News and I'd like to give you some of the details. Roselyn Hubbell was the Head Counselor at Golden Valley High School in Santa Clarita until she was forced to resign her position after it was discovered that she had ongoing inappropriate/sexual relations with TWO different 16 year old boys who she was supposed to be "counseling." The facts of the case can be verified in "the Signal" newspaper archives of Santa CLarita. Roselyn Hubbell is married with 2 young boys ages 1 and 4. While she was having these relationships she moved out on her husband of 7 years and kids to an apartment just two blocks from where one of her 16 year old boyfriends lives. Now it should be noted that this young boy has fallen in love with her and refuses to cooperate with law enforcement, he even has her name tatooed on his chest. This is significant because AFTER she resigned she was arrested by the Sherrifs trying to check into a motel in Reseda with the young boy. She had brought alcohol to the motel and the boy was arrested for possession of COCAINE. The reason why I am writing is that the DA is trying to plea bargain her case down to a misdemeanor with only community service as a punishment. I find this to be an absolute travesty of justice and a supreme case of reverse sexism. I suppose that because the victim was a willing participant that the DA feels that a conviction is unlikely but as the father of two young boys myself I am outraged at the message this sends, "it is OK to manipulate a 16 year old BOY to have sex." I can only pray that my boys will be better served by future DA's as this one seems to not realize that there is a reason why one is not considered an adult until they reach the age of 18 and the law is designed to protect minors from predators like Roselyn Hubbell. Thank you for reading this and I hope that any publicity you can provide can help nudge this lazy turd of a DA to do their job.
Hi Rachel,
My name is Beulah Sakai. I am the sister of Alvaro Calderon, he was murdered on January 25, 2008. I do recall meeting you as you interviewed my older Brother Peter Calderon after a peace march we had in Pacoima. I am contacting you because I need to ask you a favor, I am writing a paper on Gang Prevention for a college class and would like to ask Mr. Jeff Carr a couple of question. Would you be able to help locate him? Mr Carr's email or phone number would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for continuing to cover the news. I am a daily reader and appreciate all your hard work.
