I heard a rumor that Border’s was going to close after the first of the year. Have you heard anything? Can you check this out please?
Linda,
I hadn't heard this until you mentioned it. But I searched online and found Borders is closing six shops across the nation, including locations in Santa Monica, Tempe, Arizona and Cincinnati. Here's the story: http://www.surfsantamonica.com/ssm_site/the_lookout/news/News-2008/December-2008/12_22_08_Borders_Closes_Santa_Monica_Chapter.htm

I heard the Borders in Valencia is closing too
Borders like many retailers have expereinced steep sales declines over year ago sales. This is reflective in their current quarterly and year-to-date sales and revenue reports.
In terms of closing, the Valencia location is not on a current store closing list.
However, as with many retailers, both privately held and publicly traded (as is the case with Borders), we will see substantial store closings, bankruptcy filings, liquidations, etc.
Unfortunately, Borders is not immune to the pressures facing most retailers.
My concern for Borders is not with the Valencia location, but the entire chain, including Borders Express and Waldenbooks. Sales of both books and recorded music have just dropped off to levels not seen before when compared with year-over-year sales, not including stores open less than one year.
Furthermore, Borders has all but stopped opening new stores.
